Support Letter to Cohna – Canada
Post On:September 6, 2025
The event, titled “Suraksha: Combating Hinduphobia, Addressing Hate Crimes,” was organized by the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) in collaboration with the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM). Suraksha (which means ‘safety’ in Sanskrit) is CoHNA’s branded series of civic-education workshops designed to empower Hindus to recognize, report, and respond to hate crimes.
& somebody tried to disrupt it. We wrote this letter below in support of COHNA to the concerned authorities
————————————————————————————————————————
I hope this message finds you well.
Difficult times:
I’m writing to you with respect for the public office you hold and the immense responsibility it carries—especially now, as global tensions spill onto Canadian streets. These are difficult times, and I recognize the pressure your position entails.
Disruptive Vs Non Disruptive
That said, I feel compelled to raise a concern. The perception that disruptive religious protests in public spaces are tolerated, while a peaceful Hindu event held indoors with full legal permissions is questioned, is deeply troubling. This imbalance does not reflect the principles of fairness and equality that Canadians hold dear.
Models of Activism:
If Islamic activism rooted in foreign soil is considered acceptable in Canada, then it is only fair to ask: why should Hindu activism connected to India—especially when conducted in a lawful and non-disruptive manner—be treated differently? This double standard undermines the very values of pluralism and equal treatment that Canada aspires to uphold.
Multicultural complexity:
That may be a new experience to your team, but for Hindus, it is a lived reality shaped by centuries of compelled co-existence—quite often through one-sided pain and violence that we alone endured. The actions by some here to disrupt our event is a psychological continuation of the physical violence Hindus endured. But then our history is marked by resilience in the face of persecution, and that experience has taught us how to coexist without conflict. Today, we bring that hard-earned wisdom not to divide, but to help Canada navigate its own challenges and secure a fair, inclusive future.
Appeasement vs Leadership:
This moment calls not for appeasement, but for principled leadership. Canadians are watching—not to see if you will bend, but to see if you will rise to the responsibility your office demands. My best wishes go to Cohna and its young team, who embody Canadian values through peaceful and principled engagement. Violence—whether physical or psychological—must never be rewarded with silence or concession. There are here to help you strengthen your values.
May the cosmic forces give you strength!
I’m not sure what pressures your team may be facing, but I wish you the strength to stand firm against unethical influence.May your actions be defined not by pressure, but by principle.
If you’d like to explore this further or tap into the expertise of Cohna and don’t hesitate to reach out. Partnering with them isn’t just support—it’s a strategic advantage.
