Ana de Souza & Hindu-Catholic Dialogue

This gracious lady was a member of the Hindu catholic dialogue representing the Christian side, held recently in Canada.

Let us briefly examine her work *Interpreting the Muscular Ram*, without seeking academic accolades. A cursory reading reveals the following:

1. She cites Sheldon Pollock, an academic whose body of work reflects a longstanding prejudice against Hindu traditions.
2. Her methodology appears to emulate Audrey Truschke, of psychoanalysis of Lord Ram. Yet so much bad press for Hindutva!
3. This fits a recurring pattern among Indian-origin scholars with Christian affiliations, who often amplify Hindu-Muslim tensions while positioning themselves as neutral observers.
4. In contrast, many of these academics write with notable reverence and diligence when addressing non-Hindu religions.
5. Her dissection of Hindu worship practices seems designed less for understanding and more for strategic insight—potentially serving evangelical interests.

Her involvement in Hindu-Catholic dialogue warrants careful scrutiny. It echoes a longstanding historical tendency wherein individuals of Indian origin align themselves with external ideological constructs that, intentionally or not, erode the authenticity and dignity of their own cultural heritage. This pattern is reminiscent of certain princely elites during British colonial rule who sought legitimacy and status through the embrace of imperial validation. In this instance, the choice to engage appears less a gesture of genuine interfaith inquiry and more a strategic act of self-subordination—driven by the pursuit of academic recognition and professional advancement.
