Dear CCCB,

I hope this message finds you in peace and purpose. The timing of your meeting was perfect and this relates to the mental health of children under Christian institutions. We did send out this letter to CCCB website but it does not provide email information of key participants in the meeting, hence re-producing the letter here,

Christian teacher tapes mouth of Hindu student

Ref: Child mouth taped in Indian Christian run school

What is Church Position?
I am writing to seek your church’s official position on a deeply troubling incident that recently occurred in Chhattisgarh, India, where a nursery student was punished by a Mother Teresa run Catholic school principal for greeting her with “Radhe Radhe”—a traditional Hindu salutation. The child’s mouth was reportedly taped shut, her hands tied, and her palms struck with a stick. The principal, now under arrest, faces charges under the Juvenile Justice Act.

This incident has raised serious concerns about the ethical boundaries of faith-based education and evangelism. As a member of the global faith community, I believe churches have a moral responsibility to speak out against coercive or abusive practices carried out in the name of religious outreach—especially when children are involved.

I respectfully ask:
– Does CCCB affirm the principles of *ethical evangelism*, including respect for cultural identity, autonomy, and transparency?
– What safeguards are in place to ensure that affiliated institutions abroad uphold these values?
– Will CCCB publicly condemn coercive or abusive behavior in faith-run schools and missions?
– How does CCCB support victims of such incidents and promote accountability?

Faith, when shared ethically, can be a force for healing and unity. But when it crosses into manipulation or suppression, it undermines the very message it seeks to convey.I trust your church will treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves and reaffirm its commitment to dignity, compassion, and justice. We are addressing this to you as the incident happened at a Catholic Institution.

And as the principal sponsor of this event, we respectfully invite Mr. Roopnauth Sharma to share his thoughts on this deeply sensitive matter concerning Hindu children. The issue evokes troubling parallels with the legacy of Canada’s residential schools. As a distinguished leader of Canadian Hindus, Mr. Sharma carries a profound responsibility to help foster thoughtful dialogue and healing around this subject.

Such dialogue is not only vital for the community—it represents a global model for trust-building. It is a shared responsibility of Hindus and Christians alike to come together, acknowledge historical harms, and foster mutual respect and understanding.

Sincerely,
Gopala Krishna
