Dear Sameer Thakur,
Namaste. We trust this message finds you well.
Our work: The Dwarapakalas Canada, an organization dedicated to fostering dialogue and collaboration between Hindu temples and interfaith leadership within Canada, writes to you today with respect and concern regarding the recent inclusion of non-Hindu deities within the premises of Vitthal Mandir.
The concern: Hindu temples, with their sacred murtis and mantras, serve as focal points for devotees seeking a distinct spiritual experience. While we commend the well-intentioned desire to promote religious diversity, the introduction of non-Hindu deities has sparked important discussions about preserving the integrity and distinct traditions of Hindu temples.
Sanctity of Space: We understand and value the principles of religious harmony and inclusivity. However, it is also crucial to acknowledge the significance of upholding the unique tenets and practices of individual faith traditions. The introduction of non-Hindu deities within the consecrated space of Vitthal Mandir, while well-meant, may inadvertently create confusion and diminish the distinct spiritual experience sought by devotees.
Our Request: With utmost respect for the diversity of religious beliefs, we kindly request the reconsideration of the presence of non-Hindu portraits within Vitthal Hindu Mandir. Our aim should be to maintain the sanctity and integrity of this sacred space for the benefit and comfort of the devoted Hindu community.
Interfaith dialogue: We acknowledge the importance of fostering interfaith understanding and cooperation. To this end, we propose exploring alternative avenues such as interfaith dialogues, community events, and educational programs, which can provide platforms for respectful discussions without compromising the integrity of individual religious spaces.
Thank you in advance: We appreciate your willingness to consider our concerns and anticipate a thoughtful discussion on this important matter. We are confident that through open dialogue and mutual respect, we can find an amicable resolution that honors the values of both inclusivity and the unique traditions of Vitthal Mandir.
Sincerely,
